Civil War Major Amasa Brown Watson was a friend of Reeds Lake steamboat Captain John Honore Poisson. After Watson died in 1888 Poisson named his newly built steamboat after the Major. Watson was a lumberman and a well-known and respected Grand Rapids businessman. Mrs. Watson donated flags of nations to be displayed on the top of the boat. This photo is an early view of the steamer with its pilot house still up top. It was soon removed.
