Subject

The history of John W. Fisk's inn or tavern on the southwest corner of Lakeside Road SE and Robinson Road, 1837 - 1954.

Description

Known as this area's first inn or hotel, John W. Fisk's inn or tavern stood on the southwest corner of Lakeside Road SE and Robinson Road, 1837 - 1954. When built, the structure was a stop on the Thornapple Road leading out to Ada. Many folks stopped for the night to have dinner, square dance and perhaps stay the evening. In 1902 the property was purchased by Ben E. West and his father, Judson West, of Grand Rapids drugstore fame. The family used the old inn first as a stable for their horses and later as a garage for cars. This historic structure was demolished in 1954.
