1928 – 1954
The State of Michigan purchased several pieces of property on west and south shore of Reeds Lake on which they wished to build their Naval Armory. The citizens of East Grand Rapids did not want an armory in their city. Thus the building never came to fruition.
Instead, the State leased a structure on the west shore of Reeds Lake. The building, which was built after the turn of the century had served many purposes through the years - Kahler’s Saloon, Phoenix Club, Palm Gardens, Lakeside School, EGR Municipal offices
